Father God,

Living in freedom is a blessing you want all to experience, so you sent your son, Christ Jesus, as a living sacrifice for our spiritual freedom and the promise of eternal life.

Lord, as creator, you have instilled in many of your children the desire to protect and service others. They serve with Christ-like character as they promise to put the good of others first and foremost. Today we want to lift up all the brave men and women who courageously stand as a shield in our communities, states, and country. Those that will lay down their lives in the name of freedom for others. Lord, we pray that you will be gracious to them and bless their families.

We ask that you protect them and be their place of refuge when they face the evil and darkness of this world. We pray you bring peace and comfort to all who have lost loved ones in the name of freedom. For those who return broken, we pray for your healing hand to rest on them. Lord, as citizens, let us have eyes to see these remarkable men and women not just on Memorial Day, but every day. Put it on our hearts to verbally thank them for their service and sacrifice and to pray for them throughout the year.

It is all in the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
