Do you remember as a child ever stretching out your pinky finger and hooking it around your friend's pinky finger while saying, "Pinky Promise?"
When I read God's Word, I often feel like God is reaching down his hand and offering me his pinky. This gesture, reminiscent of the childhood 'pinky promise, 'is a powerful symbol of God's faithfulness. When I take hold, he says, "Pinky Promise, Karen. As you read my WORD, I will reveal to you that I am a promise keeper. If I speak it, it will come to pass."
When I look carefully at scripture, I can see how God threaded prophecies throughout to ensure His promised Messiah would be recognized. These prophecies, often referred to as 'God-breathed promises,' are significant because they foretell the coming of Jesus, our Savior. Let's look at just a few verses that are God-breathed promises fulfilled through the birth of Jesus (Want to dig deeper? (Click HERE for a PDF that shows 100 verses).
In Genesis 22:18, God declares that because Abraham obeyed him, the Messiah will come through his family line.
In Isaiah 7:14, God shares that the Messiah will be born of a virgin and be called Immanuel.
In Micah 5:2, we find that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem.
In John 1:14, we read, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
This Christmas Season, let's praise and worship our promise-keeping God. Let's celebrate and adore Christ, the promised one, Immanuel, who left the heavenly realm to break through the sin and darkness of the world. The one who restored the connection between us and our Heavenly Father.
As we move into 2025, let's stand firm, knowing God is always faithful to his Word. He has kept every promise he has made. We can look to the future full of hope because we know that Jesus came to fulfill a promise, he died to fulfill a promise, and he will return to fulfill a promise.
Father God,
Thank you that when you speak a word it will come to pass.
You authored creation - you spoke it, and it came to be.
You are a promise keeper- you declare it, and it has or will come to be.
We are so thankful for the promised gift of your son, Jesus, the promised gift of restoration, and the promised gift of eternal life with you.
Great is your faithfulness, oh God.
Amen
P.S. I invite you to join me by opening your Bible and imagining your pinky finger tightly wrapped around our Gracious God's pinky (for he eagerly awaits spending time with you). Then, rest in the fact that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is steadfast and true. When you read a promise in his Word, it is a promise made to you and me. It is a promise we can count on to be fulfilled.
