Ponder: Why do you think God chose to send His Son, our rescuer, to earth as a baby?
Scripture: While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. -Luke 2: 6-7
Karen's Thoughts: Scripture teaches us that genealogy is not just a list of names but a crucial part of God's plan. God promised David a descendant (“your offspring”) who would establish his kingdom, a promise that was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus.
2 Samuel 7:12 -When your days are fulfilled, and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
Galatians 4: 4-5 - But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Jesus came not only to redeem all people who were under the law, but also to show us how to live. To do this, he became fully human(born of a woman) and was subject to the law. By doing this, he became our role model, the perfect example of how to live on earth, inspiring us to follow in his footsteps.
In Matthew 5:5, Our Heavenly Father calls us to be meek and promises us his blessing if we follow through. The biblical definition of meek is a quality of the heart that makes one humble, gentle, and willing to submit to God’s will. Jesus submitted to God’s will, left his throne in heaven, humbled himself, and came into this world as a tiny, dependent baby. Again, becoming the perfect example of what God asks of us. In Matthew 11:29, Jesus tells us, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Because Jesus came as a baby and walked through life with others, he was and remains relatable. He left his place of power and control to become approachable, a gentle and lowly in-heart servant.
Tom's Thought's: The God who created heaven and earth chose to live in a human womb for 9 months, be born in a barn, and then spend a few years not being able to do anything for himself. He chose to live out this miracle that he created. That’s quite humbling. That's true love. My guess is that you rarely think about baby Jesus throughout the year other than at Christmas. I know I have not until this question was posed to me. I believe pondering this question will now stick with me throughout the year.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
1 John 4:16
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
We'd love to hear from you. Please share verses God reveals to you as you PONDER the question above.
